YSI is seeking a highly qualified Junior AWS DevOps Engineer.  The selected candidate will support the development, deployment, and operation of cloud-based applications and infrastructure.  This role is ideal for candidates early in their DevOps career who have a strong foundation in Linux, AWS cloud platforms, and automation, and who are eager to learn modern DevOps tools and practices while working closely with development and operations teams.  The candidate must have strong problem-solving skills, hands-on experience with AWS services, and the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.  This role must be able to communicate effectively (written/verbal), possess strong interpersonal skills, be self-motivated, and be innovative in a fast-paced environment.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for deploying and managing cloud resources, tools, services, and deliverables throughout the performance period, as they relate to the organization's mission.
  • Supports automation initiatives to reduce manual configuration and operational risk by building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for application deployment.
  • Assist with automation of repetitive tasks using AWS CLI, scripting (Bash, Python), or configuration tools.
  • Provide support with the practice of managing and provisioning IT infrastructure using code and configuration files instead of manual processes, enabling automation, consistency and version control.
  • Support and troubleshoot AWS services such as EC2, ELB, S3, EBS, RDS, VPC, Route 53, Security Groups, NACLs, IAM roles, policies, and permissions.
  • Assist with deployment, configuration, and monitoring of cloud resources using Amazon CloudWatch, Amazon CloudTrail, Splunk, Nessus, Trend Micro, etc…
  • Assist with deploying and managing containers using orchestration platforms such as ECS, EKS, or Kubernetes and support containerized applications using Docker.
  • Perform maintenance and sustainment activities that include designing, coding (HTML), testing, and implementing requirements. This encompasses all aspects of operating the production, test, and development environments of the application.
  • Setup, develop, support and maintain security operations related to identity, access, and security administration through services such as Cloud PAM.
  • Perform routine operational tasks required to keep AWS environments stable and available.
  • Provide subject matter expertise for Department of the Air Force related financial matters and programs as they relate to Automated Funds Management activities and processes. 
  • Attends meetings and provides input associated with financial area of expertise. Participates in writing/formulating requirements, documents and evaluations/recommendations. 
  • Maintains and updates formal MOU, MOA, and Service Level Agreements between Automated Funds Management System and interface partners. Identify and assess training needs, design, and develop/deliver training material.
  • Experience providing expert advice and support to colleagues, clients or customers. Support requirements development to include research and development of new capabilities and approaches and have detailed understanding of the role Automated Funds Management System plays in the overall Department of the Air Force financial process. 
  • Understanding of requirements for DoD Financial Improvement and Audit Readiness (FIAR) and Federal Information System Control and Audit Manual (FISCAM) compliance for Funds Management System.
  • Provide additional support for application software and hardware.
  • Provide additional subject matter expert support to resolve issues that cannot be resolved at the functional level. This normally involves complex issues related to hardware, software, and operating system issues.
  • Developing and providing systems documentation, knowledge base articles, training presentations, and manuals for training the trainer and users.
  • System Change Requests will be made using JIRA

 

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Must possess a valid CompTIA Security+ certification (or equivalent)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science/Engineering (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience supporting Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) applications and infrastructure in an AWS cloud environment and an understanding of AWS Elastic Beanstalk best practices.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in Linux-based systems.
  • Familiarity with monitoring, logging (CloudWatch, CloudTrail), privileged access management (PAM), and alerting tools.
  • Basic scripting experience (Bash, Python, etc..)
  • Proven experience in updating and maintaining HTML code with a strong understanding of HTML best practices.
  • Exposure to containerized applications using Docker and containerization concepts to ensure consistent, reliable deployments across environments.
  • Experience with ticketing systems such as Jira and Service Now.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Understanding FIAR and FISCAM compliance requirements and experience implementing FIAR requirements. 
  • Hands on experience with developing training materials for users in the field when changes to the system are made or new personnel are onboarded.
  • Experience as an effective technical writer encompassing documentation and procedures for various audiences.

Location: Wright Patterson AFB, Hybrid

Salary: $80-90,000 annually with benefits

Clearance: Active Secret

Certificates: Active CompTIA Security+ (or equivalent)
