The Virginia Dept of Health (VDH) is seeking an Oracle OCI Cloud Engineer. This is hybrid position that may require some after-hours and weekend hours required based on workload. Candidate must participate in on-call rotation.
Job Responsibilities
- Design and manage Oracle OCI environments, including database, middleware, and infrastructure components
- Develop and maintain Oracle APEX applications and ORDS services
- Configure and administer Oracle WebLogic Server and related technologies
- Plan and execute database upgrades, migrations, and conversions
- Implement and manage backup, recovery, and replication strategies using RMAN and other tools
- Ensure high availability, disaster recovery, and data protection
- Monitor and optimize database performance, implementing tuning recommendations
- Implement and automate routine tasks using shell scripting and tools like Ansible
- Collaborate with development and DevOps teams to ensure seamless application deployment
- Proactively identify and resolve potential issues, providing timely support
- Documenting and training on best practices for Oracle OCI environment management
Required skills and experience
- 10+ years of experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI)
- Strong expertise in Oracle Application Express (APEX 18+), Oracle REST Data Services (ORDS 22+), Oracle WebLogic Server 14, and Oracle Database (19c/26ai)
- Experience with CDB/PDB, database upgrades (19c → 26ai), PDB cloning, RMAN, and Oracle Data Guard
- Proficiency in Linux/Unix, shell scripting, GitLab, Ansible, Python, and JavaScript
- Hands-on with Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM 24ai), WebLogic administration, DB patching, and OCI DBaaS
- Strong knowledge of cloud architecture, HA/DR, database security, and performance tuning
- Familiar with Docker and Kubernetes
- Excellent problem-solving, communication skills, and ability to provide 24/7 support
Desirable Skills
- Certification in Oracle technologies such as OCIP, OCP, or OCE
- Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins or GitLab CI
- Understanding of microservices architecture and API integration
