The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Information Technology Division (ITD) is seeking an architect to join the VDOT Enterprise Architecture team. This individual will work with key members focusing on strategic planning, design, and the long-term vision, ensuring network solutions align with the organization. All computer networks need to be configured in such a way that all end users can securely and efficiently access the applications, data, and tools, this also involves implementing the network to meet rigorous security standards alongside installing and configuring hardware elements. Candidates must be able to provide documentation throughout the design and deployment process as a reference for future network enhancements or maintenance. Job Responsibilities
- Document comprehensive network designs that integrate multiple network technologies, such as LANs, WANs, wireless networks, and VPNs, to support the organization’s business operations and communication needs.
- Cloud centric network design, including multi-tenant, multi-region (intra US) deployments and multi-vendor technologies across IaaS, PaaS and SaaS tiers
- Data centric network design for efficient data transfers within the agency and across agencies and with other business partners and public or otherwise external data sources
- Incorporate network solutioning with our emerging Cloud FinOps practice to support cost analysis and cost modeling for networking related cost
- Design and document the entire network implementation process
- Monitoring network performance and taking follow-up steps to resolve latency issues and security concerns
- Creating documentation throughout the design and deployment process for future reference
- Develop patterns and standards for all network designs
- The ability to analyze data traffic and system performance to determine future upgrades.
- Work with our IT staff and third-party equipment and software vendors to ensure the network needs are met.
- Research new technologies and solutions, and assess new technologies for adoption
- Define multi-site network operations and software applications.
- Train, mentor, and transfer skills to the extended team.
- Works on highly complex projects that require in-depth knowledge across multiple specialized architecture domains and networking layers.
- Aligns architecture strategy with business goals.
- Defines, explains, and advocates technology strategy.
Required skills and experience
- 10 years of experience in technical design and architecture around network equipment and network software systems, Project data and documentation tools & experience with developing network design documentations and presentations using VISIO
- Experience in Network Security Frameworks and Best Practices, Cloud Networking and Virtualization Technologies, Internet of Things (IoT) Infrastructure and Protocol
- 6 years of experience
- In design, building and maintain multi-tier networks.
- Advanced Network Design and Architecture planning, proficiency in Network Simulation and Modeling Tools Network Security Frameworks and Best Practices
- Conduct site assessment of current remote site WAN/LAN/WLAN environments, identifying network problem areas and developing hierarchical based network design
- 5 years of experience Designed and implemented multiple global Azure cloud solutions to support revenue generation.
Status: Full-time, Contract
Salary: $155-160k/A with benefits
