YSI is seeking a highly skilled Business Analyst 4 to join our team supporting the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). The ideal candidate will have a strong background in IT software/application projects, analytical thinking, and stakeholder engagement within Agile and Waterfall environments.
Analytical Thinking & Problem Solving
- Analyze and deconstruct complex systems and processes into manageable parts
- Identify root causes of issues rather than just addressing symptoms
- Deliver actionable insights for technical and business teams
Technical Proficiency
- Understand enterprise systems such as Oracle and SQL Server
- Demonstrate working knowledge of databases (SQL), APIs, and Data Flow Diagrams
- Translate business requirements into technical specifications without being a developer
Requirements Gathering & Documentation
- Conduct stakeholder interviews, workshops, and walkthroughs
- Document functional and non-functional requirements that are clear and testable
- Use Azure DevOps (TFS) to manage Agile artifacts: Epics, Features, User Stories, Tasks, Test Plans, and Test Cases
- Create visual diagrams to explain changes to technical teams and executive stakeholders
Project Methodologies
- Work across Agile/Scrum (including SAFe) and Waterfall environments
- Contribute to sprint planning, backlog grooming, and user story refinement
Communication & Collaboration
- Bridge communication gaps between business and technical teams
- Write clear and concise documentation and deliver effective presentations
- Navigate conflicting priorities, handle pushback, and resolve issues diplomatically
Process Modeling & Testing
- Create Business Process Models using Swim Lane and Flowchart Diagrams
- Support system rollouts, user onboarding, and change adoption
- Perform system integration testing and assist with User Acceptance Testing (U
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience as a Business Analyst on IT software/application projects
- Proven ability to analyze, document, and improve business and technical processes
- Demonstrated experience with enterprise IT systems and Agile tools (Azure DevOps preferred)
- Strong communication, facilitation, and organizational skills
- Must be available for in-person interviews and able to work onsite 3 days/week in Richmond, VA
